Assistant Chef
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a caring environment and understands the importance of nutrition in elderly care.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals in accordance with planned menus.
* Support the delivery of meals that meet residents’ dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, soft/pureed diets).
* Ensure food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
* Maintain strict adherence to food hygiene and safety regulations (HACCP guidelines).
* Assist in stock rotation, storage, and inventory control.
* Support with receiving and checking food deliveries.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
* Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure residents’ needs and preferences are met.
* Report any kitchen maintenance or food safety concerns to the Head Chef.
* Assist during inspections and audits when required.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience in a kitchen environment (care home or healthcare setting desirable).
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above preferred).
* Knowledge of dietary requirements for elderly residents.
* Understanding of food safety regulations.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Good communication skills.
* Reliable, punctual, and compassionate approach.
Desirable Skills
* Experience working in a nursing home or healthcare setting.
* Knowledge of texture-modified diets.
