What the role actually looks like

CAMHS residential and inpatient services

Supported living services for young people and adults with mental health needs

Community mental health services

Crisis and step-down residential units

Independent mental health providers

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Holding CQC (or equivalent) registration and taking overall responsibility for the quality and compliance of the service

Providing strong operational and strategic leadership to the service and its staff team

Ensuring the service meets all regulatory requirements, including CQC fundamental standards and relevant legislation

Leading on recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, and performance management of staff

Overseeing safeguarding processes, incident management, and risk escalation

Building and maintaining productive relationships with commissioners, inspectors, families, and external agencies

Managing budgets, resources, and contracts in line with organisational requirements

Leading on preparation for and management of CQC inspections

Driving a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and person-centred care

Maintaining accurate governance, reporting, and compliance documentation

What we need from you

Essential:

Current or previous CQC Registered Manager status (or equivalent regulatory registration)

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

Demonstrable experience managing a regulated mental health or social care service

Strong working knowledge of CQC standards, safeguarding legislation, and the Mental Health Act

Proven leadership, staff management, and operational management skills

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)

Excellent communication skills — able to engage effectively at all levels including with commissioners and inspectors

Desirable (but not always required):

Experience specifically within CAMHS, young people's services, or specialist mental health

Track record of achieving Good or Outstanding CQC ratings

Experience turning around services rated Inadequate or Requires Improvement

Financial management and budgetary experience at service level

Degree-level qualification in health, social care, or a related field
