English Teacher

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed English Lecturers to deliver high-quality GCSE English teaching to post-16 learners at colleges in Abingdon. The successful candidate will support students in developing their literacy skills and achieving their GCSE English qualification, including resit learners.

This role is offered on an hourly paid basis and is suitable for experienced further education lecturers or secondary teachers looking for flexible teaching hours.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and inclusive GCSE English Language (and/or Literature) lessons.

*

Teach in line with current GCSE specifications and awarding body requirements.

*

Assess, monitor and track student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback.

*

Prepare students effectively for examinations and coursework assessments.

*

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, progress and achievement.

*

Provide academic and pastoral support to learners where appropriate.

*

Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement processes.

*

Participate in team meetings, standardisation and CPD activities as required.

*

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality and health & safety policies.

Essential Criteria

*

Degree in English or a closely related subject.

*

Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent).

*

Experience teaching GCSE English.

*

Strong classroom management and organisational skills.

*

Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate learners.

*

Commitment to inclusive practice and supporting diverse learners.

Desirable Criteria

*

Experience teaching GCSE resit students in a further education environment.

*

Knowledge of current GCSE exam board requirements.

Experience supporting students with SEND or additional learning needs
