MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To ensure a high standard of teaching, student learning, and behaviour across the Art Department through effective leadership, management, and strategic development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leading, Line Managing and Developing Staff
Promote a positive and supportive working environment
Monitor staff wellbeing, attendance, and performance
Appraise and mentor colleagues, including new staff induction
Lead departmental development planning and set clear improvement targets
Observe teaching and provide constructive feedback
Support behaviour management and inclusion, including SEND provision
Lead recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives
Ensure compliance with relevant policies and curriculum changes
2. Managing Teaching and Learning
Oversee curriculum planning, schemes of work, and assessment strategies
Monitor lesson planning, marking, and homework quality
Analyse student performance data and implement improvement strategies
Ensure high standards of behaviour and engagement
Promote enrichment and extra-curricular activities
Develop curriculum in collaboration with senior leadership
3. Managing and Developing Resources
Manage departmental budget and resources effectively
Maintain secure and organised learning environments
Lead development of high-quality teaching materials
Support acquisition of new equipment, including ICT
Contribute to funding bids where appropriate
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Degree in Art or a related subject
Proven experience teaching Art at secondary level
Experience in leadership or departmental responsibility (preferred)
Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment
Up-to-date safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for one)
