Phonics Teaching Assistant

Location: Leeds
Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time (term time only)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Phonics Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming primary school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about early literacy and helping children build strong foundations in reading and writing.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to deliver high-quality phonics support, both in small groups and on a 1:1 basis, helping pupils develop essential phonics skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Support the delivery of a structured phonics programme (e.g. Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds, or similar)
Work with groups and individual pupils to improve phonics, reading, and early writing skills
Assist in identifying pupils who need additional support and adapt strategies accordingly
Help create an engaging and inclusive learning environment
Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience working in a primary school setting (preferably EYFS or KS1)
Strong understanding of phonics teaching approaches
A passion for supporting early reading development
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
