Planning Officer
Location: Kent (Hybrid – 1 day per week in office + site visits)
Rate: £35–£40 per hour
Contract: Initial 9 months
A Kent-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced Interim Planning Officer to join their Development Management team on an initial 9-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking planning department, contributing to a varied and interesting caseload.
The Role:
You will be responsible for managing a caseload of planning applications, providing professional advice, and ensuring high-quality decision-making in line with local and national planning policies. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with just one day per week in the office alongside required site visits.
Key Responsibilities:

Assess and determine a range of planning applications (including householder, minor, and potentially small major applications)

Provide clear, well-reasoned recommendations and reports
*
Engage with stakeholders including applicants, agents, and the public
*
Conduct site visits as required
*
Contribute to maintaining performance targets and service delivery standards
Requirements:

Previous experience working in a local authority planning team
*
Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy
*
Ability to manage a caseload independently
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*
Membership of (or working towards) RTPI is desirable
