Responsibilities
* Produce and own control system deliverables: URS, FDS, DDS/SDS, I/O lists, cause and effect, alarms, and test plans
* Develop PLC/HMI/SCADA applications to internal coding standards and client specifications
* Configure and integrate generator controllers (DSE, ComAp, Woodward), including synchronising, load sharing, ATS/AMF logic, and black-start/priority management
* Interface PLCs with protection relays, meters, breakers, UPS, and BMS/EMS systems
* Lead FAT/SAT, I/O checks, loop testing, simulation, and on-site commissioning
* Troubleshoot PLC, HMI/SCADA, and communications networks, implementing robust fixes and design improvements
* Maintain version control, change management, and reusable libraries (e.g., Git-based workflows)
* Support documentation and compliance: as-built software, change logs, handover packs, and end-user training (O&M)
* Contribute to OT networking and cybersecurity: segmentation, hardening, backups, access controls, and secure architecture documentation
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of standards, templates, and function blocks
Requirements
* 5 to 10 years’ experience as a PLC/Controls Engineer delivering industrial control systems
* Strong PLC/HMI/SCADA capability, ideally Siemens TIA Portal (SCL/Ladder) and/or Rockwell Studio 5000 (Ladder/Structured Text) with WinCC/Unified and/or FactoryTalk View
* Must have written system code from conception / from design (not just small modifications)
* Experience integrating generator controls and power systems: ATS/AMF, synchronisation/load sharing, breaker control, protection interfaces, meters, and UPS integration
* Confident running FAT/SAT and on-site commissioning, including fault-finding under time pressure
* Solid industrial networking knowledge (Layer 2/3), managed switches, VLANs, NAT/routing, and troubleshooting common protocols: Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA
* Ability to read/mark up electrical schematics and collaborate with electrical design (EPLAN/AutoCAD Electrical)
* Safety-first mindset with awareness of relevant standards and site processes (RAMS, PUWER, IEC (phone number removed) principles; functional safety awareness is a plus)
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the UK
* Right to work in the UK (British passport or settlement status)
