Principal Consultant

Salary: Up to £65,000
Location: Manchester - Remote working with occasional office visits (approx. 2x per month)

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Principal Consultant to join our client's expanding team, playing a key role in delivering sustainable solutions across the residential development sector. With a strong focus on new build projects, this position offers the opportunity to take ownership of both technical delivery and team leadership.

This role is well suited to someone who combines strong leadership capability with a methodical approach to quality and commercial awareness. You'll be leading a team working on innovative schemes, particularly around overheating analysis (DSM using IES) and planning-led sustainability strategies.

Day-to-Day Duties

Lead and guide the team to deliver projects to a high technical standard

Carry out regular quality checks to ensure consistency and compliance

Mentor and develop team members, supporting their professional growth

Work closely with clients and stakeholders to achieve project goals

Track project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation

Keep up to date with industry developments, particularly within residential and sustainability sectors

Support business growth through client engagement and new opportunities

Key Responsibilities

Team Management: Oversee team performance, allocate workloads, and ensure delivery targets are met

Quality Control: Maintain robust QA processes across all project outputs

Training & Development: Implement structured training and support continuous team improvement

Commercial Responsibility: Manage project finances, including forecasting and profitability

Technical Delivery: Lead on overheating modelling (IES DSM) and planning-related sustainability work

Sector Growth: Support the expansion of services within the residential new build market

Sustainability Input: Exposure to whole life carbon assessments (WLCA) would be beneficial

Experience & Requirements

Demonstrated experience managing teams and overseeing project delivery

Strong understanding of QA processes within a consultancy environment

Experience developing team capability and training initiatives

Commercial awareness with responsibility for project financials

Excellent understanding and practical experience of IES software (essential)

Technical expertise in overheating analysis (IES DSM) and planning strategies

Interest or experience within the residential new build sector

Relevant academic or professional background (engineering, sustainability, architecture, etc.)

Strong communication and leadership skills
