About the Client/Child You will be joining a warm and welcoming family with two cheerful, lively young boys. Jake (8) is an affectionate and loving child who enjoys cuddles, close interaction, and lots of attention. He is very tactile and particularly enjoys sensory activities, music, and physical play. His younger brother, Edward (5), is curious and imaginative, with a love for social play, football, and exploring the world around him. He also loves creative activities. Jake has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and a speech and language delay. He requires close supervision and support throughout the day to help him navigate routines and activities. Jake has limited expressive language and may communicate using non-verbal cues or alternative methods. He also needs assistance with daily self-care tasks, including toileting, dressing, and personal hygiene. Jake responds well to structured routines and gentle transitions, which help reduce anxiety and support emotional regulation. He experiences occasional absence seizures, which require careful monitoring and are currently under investigation by the neurology team.
The Role at a Glance This is a hands-on, varied after-school role supporting two lively boys in a welcoming family home. You’ll collect Jake (3:00pm) and Edward (3:30pm) from school, a 15-minute drive, so being a confident driver is essential. Once home, you’ll help the boys unwind, with snacks for Jake and creative “den-building” play for Edward, finding ways to include Jake along the way. You’ll prepare dinner in an open-plan space, keeping an eye on both boys. If you can make a little extra for mum and dad, that would be welcomed. General household support includes tidying play areas, wiping surfaces, a quick hoover and managing the dishwasher. You’ll support Edward with homework, then help both boys with showers and getting ready for story time before mum and dad finish work. During school holidays, there are opportunities for day trips — farms, bowling, gardens, and swimming — as well as earlier starts two days a week for batch cooking or dog walking.
This Job Would Suit This position would suit someone bubbly, energetic, and kind, with the confidence to be firm when needed and a willingness to fully immerse themselves in family life. The ideal candidate thinks creatively, goes the extra mile, and has a genuine passion for working with children, particularly those with special needs.
Why You’ll Love This Role This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in both boys’ lives within a supportive, family-centered environment. You’ll enjoy working in a welcoming home with beautiful surroundings and have the opportunity to engage in a variety of fun and creative activities. During the summer, you’ll also have access to the family’s private outdoor swimming pool.
