Our client, a large and highly efficient Regional Distribution Centre (RDC), is looking to appoint an experienced Shift Manager to join their fast-paced warehousing operation.

This is a key leadership role within a semi-automated environment, where you will be responsible for driving performance, leading teams, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across your shift.

The Role

As Shift Manager, you will take full responsibility for operational performance during your shift, ensuring productivity, accuracy, and service levels are consistently achieved. You’ll lead from the front, managing teams in a dynamic, high-volume environment where pace and precision are critical.

Key Responsibilities

Lead 3 Team Leaders and c.50 operatives across warehouse operations

Take full accountability for inbound, outbound, service levels, productivity, and labour performance

Drive performance across key KPIs including productivity, accuracy, and service levels

Manage labour budgets, headcount, agency usage, and shift resourcing

Oversee attendance, absence, and holiday planning to ensure operational continuity

Approve timesheets and payroll submissions, ensuring financial accuracy

Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety standards and promote a strong safety culture

Ensure effective use of semi-automated systems and material handling equipment

Monitor workflow and resource allocation to maximise efficiency

Coach, develop, and support Team Leaders and operatives

Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts

Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in a Shift Manager or similar leadership role within warehousing or distribution

Strong background in fast-paced, high-volume environments

Experience working within semi-automated or automated warehouse operations

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams

Strong understanding of warehouse KPIs and performance management

A proactive, hands-on leadership style

Excellent organisational and communication skills

Flexibility to work rotating shifts (6–2 / 2–10)
